Time Monster's Minions - Kill Them by Tina Gayle

All of us know people who slow us down. Either they don’t plan ahead, or they get behind and hand you their stuff at the last minute.

This can kill a well laid out schedule if you are depending on someone to get something done.

Here are a few things that might help:

  1. Reorganize – Review the way things need to be done so that you’re not held up by the people who are constantly behind.
  2. Set deadlines - If they don’t meet your schedule let them know you won’t be done on time. (This is important even if you’re at the bottom of the food chain. They have to know others are depending on you too.)
  3. Keep moving - Either by working on something else until you get the information you need or by getting enough key information from them that you can keep working without waiting for them to finish.
  4. Learn other’s method of working - Some people are always in crisis mode, find out who these people are and give them an earlier deadline, that way you might get the information by the time you need it. Or if a person gets things right away, you might put off giving them the work so that when they get it back to you, you’ll be able to finish it right away.
As we keep learning again and again, planning is the key to winning the battle against the time monster.

Best of  luck with your Frankenstein,

Tina

Awakening to Reality - A Super Mom Moment

The alarm sounds.

Hearing it, our super hero opens her eyes. Ever vigilant to saving the world, she responds by swatting at the button to put a stop to the endless racket. The beeping stops but the peaceful sound of silence did not follow in its wake.

Angry words, loud shouts, and grunts of conflict race down the hall to her ears.

Our hero, tired and weary from a sleepless night, leaps from her resting-place, throws her satin cape around her shoulders, slides her feet into her bunny slippers, and heads for the door. With her pace less than the speed of light, she shuffles around the corner in a rush. The sleep in her eyes blurs the sight of the kitchen, which lays only a short distance in front of her.

The scene she’s faced many times before was a battle of wills, a force of nature clashing together, their youthful action plays out the fight for dominance. One locked in the grips of puberty, the other loud with adolescent energy vibrating off the walls. Each uses his muscles to take out his frustration on the other.

With his arms around his opponent’s neck, the older one struggles for the contents of a cereal box that is between them.

“You have to finish the other cereal before you can have any of this.”

Twisting forward the smaller one tries to throw his assailant over his shoulder, but the action only achieves a more precarious position. “No, you do. I ate more than my share.”

With the weight advantage, the larger one bears down on his contender, attempting to push him to the ground. There the dance starts. With a quick dart, each move is countered with a responding movement.

If it wasn’t for the restrained violence in the movements, it could be viewed as a graceful ballet. Each knowing their part, they duck—turn--sway to the rhythm of an unseen orchestra.

Each actor makes the defensive response, but our hero knows how quickly the dance can end with someone getting hurt.

“Stop it. I haven’t even gotten dressed yet and you two are at it,” our hero communicates her displeasure, killing the action with her voice.

Sullen looks and wounded pride flash through their eyes before they release their holds. A final push, a dirty look, neither shows any weakness to the other. They each wanted to show that they were only bowing to a force stronger than both of them.

Neither was brave enough to oppose our super hero.

“He started it,” Cory whined.

“Sorry,” Haden murmured in a lower voice.

Spoken close together they both hope to win favor from their enforcer with their plea, a predictable ploy and ineffective in gaining them leniency.

With a grim look and a decisive judgment, our hero controlled the situation. “Split the last of the old cereal, then if you want more we can open the new cereal.”

“Aww, mom.”

Our super hero hits the wall of her truth.

Doesn’t reality bite?

Hope you enjoyed a peer into my world and have a great day,

Tina

Wild Wizard From the Past - Guest C.B.McKee

Hey C.B., thanks for stopping by today.

Excited to be here and to tell you about my book.

Okay, then let's get to it. Why did you write the YA story?

Very good question. One, I asked myself a lot while writing the story.

Mainly, I believe because I want to go back in time. Setting in 1863, Ace is an orphan and has been tossed around from one place to another. The people, she's lived with, have not always been kind.

Yet, the story explores how the real world and the magical world both have simular problems. Both are struggling with unrest from their people. Both are searching for answers.

Here is the official blurb

Uprooted from a small Texas town, Florence “Ace” Fox is stashed in a camp for orphans, Weirdness abounds with the director talking of wizards and casting spells. He even claims she’s possessed, and that the entity is sending her power levels off the charts.

Rebel Wizards learn of her strength and decide they can use Ace to their benefit and greed to gain control of The World!!  They plot against her.

In danger and on the run, Ace and her friends’ travel through the old west looking for a way to rid her of the entity. They discover that only the leaders of the wizarding world can help, but will she like their solution?

Jail, death, or powerless.

Great, so do we also get an excerpt.

“Do you realize you have a powerful energy field?” Saw spoke as if she hadn’t said a word.
Ace blinked. Her adopted Indian father had told her the same thing many times. A spiritual leader of his tribe, he had a connection to the other worlds in the universe. Few people she’d met outside the Native American community understood energy fields or auras. What should she say? Was this a trick to make her admit she had some type of evil powers? Then he’d feel justified in killing her.
“Yes, people have mentioned that before.” She tucked her bag under her arm readying herself to spring into action should he make any unexpected movement.
“You haven’t though been taught to control your abilities and become a full wizard.” His sentence, more of a statement of fact than a question, didn’t require an answer yet she couldn’t let it go.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. There are no such things as wizards and magic. Those are things for horror stories and fairy tales.” She voiced the opinion of every white person she’d ever met, stifling the truth of what she’d seen during her time with her adopted tribe.
Saw laughed.
The sound startled her and she leaned back. Her shoulders hit the back of the chair. She stared at the man.
Without trying, she suddenly noticed how energy pulsed around his body. A golden glow captured her immediate attention. The fear she’d harbor against him melted. She drew in a cleansing breath. The man had no desire to do her any harm. In fact he had only her best interest at heart.
How did she know that?
She straightened, easing deeper onto the chair. “You’re a shaman too, aren’t you?”
He grinned and raised an eyebrow of inquiry. “Similar, but not the same. For now, though, why don’t you tell me a little about yourself? Where did you pick up the entity residing within you?”
Ace shook her head, uncertain what the man was talking about. She had no other entity dwelling within her spirit. “I’m sorry. I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.”
He nodded. His piercing gaze nailed her, causing goose bumps to pop onto her skin. “All right, then tell me about your family. I believe your father and mother were killed when you were very young?”
The question revealed Mr. Harris had given Saw a brief history of her life thus far. “Yes, and then I lived with—” She paused not wanting to reveal the tribe she had belong to. They were good people and deserved to be left alone. “—a tribe of Indians for a while before I moved in with the minister and his wife.”
“That’s where Frank found you?”
“Yes.”
“And you had no desire to come here?”
She eyed him cautiously. If he she said yes, would he take offense? Again, the gold in his aura calmed her fears. Her mind formed a connection to her father. Saw wanted to protect her from others. Why? She didn’t have a clue. “I was happy there and saw no reason to leave.”
“Maybe, but here you are going to learn the power you truly possess.”
Ace frowned. Puzzling bewilderment gnawed at her gut. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

You can buy it at

Nothing for you?

Spark of Inspiration from "The Beldam’s Eye" Author

Inspiration is a funny thing. It strikes at the oddest times, and more often than not, it’s nothing but a spark at first. What you do with that spark is what matters.
I can trace the inspiration for The Beldam’s Eye all back to two characters: Petra Finn and Winford Jasper (who affectionately call each other Pete and Winnie).
Originally, the book took place in Victorian England. Pete and Winnie came to me one day while I was walking through downtown Columbus, Ohio. I knew they were graverobbers who happened upon a supposedly enchanted ring called The Beldam’s Eye. They were hapless and ignorant and rather dirty but wanted to use the ring to their advantage. They went, I decided, to an elderly professor named Erasmus Bramble for assistance.
These are the ideas that first sparked my interest in the story of The Beldam’s Eye.
Flash-forward to now. The book takes place in modern day rural Ohio. Pete and Winnie are a couple of comic book nerds who find a pocket watch on the sidewalk, a cursed pocket watch called The Beldam’s Eye. They are merely supporting players in the novel. The lead role is Erasmus Bramble, a thirty-year-old paranormal investigator. The earliest plot for the novel had no ghosts, no paranormal plot at all; it was an adventure novel.
Inspiration changes; what inspires an author today may not inspire them tomorrow. What initially pulled me to this story wasn’t at all what drove me to finish it. At first I was intrigued by Victorian novels and my drive to explore the lives of these two graverobbers. In the end I was inspired by paranormal investigation and the entirely-renovated character of Erasmus Bramble. As a writer, you have to follow what inspires you, and that will change. What inspires me to write most of all are my characters. I come up with these people in my head, and my desire to learn more about them is what drives me to write.
If you cling to something that no longer causes that spark in you, your writing just… isn’t going to be that good. So, find that inspiration and chase it, but be sure to know when it’s time to move on.

The Bedlam’s Eye

by Jennifer Rainey

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
When Erasmus Bramble finds the recently-deceased Angus Heyer rummaging through his kitchen cabinets, he knows he has a unique case on his hands.
As paranormal investigators in rural Ohio, Ras and his business partner Antony Yeats tackle ghostly problems on a daily basis, from poltergeist exterminations to troubled spirits just looking for a shoulder to cry on. Angus isn’t looking for ghost therapy. He needs Ras and Yeats to help him retrieve a pocket watch stolen from him after death, a pocket watch that is said to be cursed: The Beldam’s Eye.
The skeptical Ras and Yeats agree to take Angus’s case, but they soon find themselves in over their heads, facing murder, theft and perilous dark magic. Is it all just backwoods superstition or is the curse of The Beldam’s Eye grisly reality?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT

Ras could hear shuffling in the kitchen. He ruffled his hands through his wet hair and walked into the living room.

A ghost covered in soot rummaged through his kitchen cabinets, humming lowly to himself, and he smiled when he found a mug that looked like a purple cat. Its tail curled into the handle, and this amused him. The occasional spark of fire flew from his dark fingers.

Ras opened his mouth to speak, but was silenced by, “Well, you gonna stand there, or you gonna get me something to drink?” The ghost burst into laughter too quickly and turned to face him. His glowing orange eyes seemed somehow mirthful, but he didn’t let his guard down. Ghosts were known for their mood swings. Being reduced to nothing but a mass of paranormal energy complete with its own electromagnetic field will do that to a person. “I’m jokin’, I’m jokin’! I couldn’t drink anything anyway.”

Ras smiled. “I wonder why you’re looking through my cabinets, then.”

“Oh, just pokin’ around,” the ghost answered in a creaky voice. “Gettin’ to know ya. I’m gonna have to if we’re gonna work together, right?”

Ras laughed. “Really? What can you tell by looking at my coffee cups?”

“Well… you like cats? Purple ones, I reckon. You got a purple cat around here somewhere?”

Ras knew in situations like this, the worst thing one could do was antagonize the ghost. Sometimes a ghost was a little addled by the dying process. It was better to try to out-crazy a spirit, make them think you were the one with a screw loose.

“Not a purple one, I’m afraid,” Ras answered, “but I did have a blue one once. I’ve always been fond of blue cats!”

“Ah, you see! Close enough, right? And I could tell that just by pokin’ through your coffee cups. I’m a regular Sherlock Holmes.”

Better Dead or Alive? Excerpt for "Mating Rituals"

A snippet to wet your appetite.

“Cyd, we have a problem,” Stihl said into his ECD. With Marohka in his arms, he dropped into the hard seat of the IPT car.

“What happened? Marohka skipped out on you again?” Cyd answered with a laugh.

“No.” Stihl shook with fear. “I think she’s been poisoned.”

He stroked her hair where she lay on his lap. “Her tongue has several green spots like Dusty’s. Call Harrigun. Get him over there right away with the antidote.”

“Right, how long until you arrive?”

“We’re on our way. We’ll be there in a few itons,” Stihl grumbled, “if this car would travel a little faster.”

“Harrigun will be here by the time you arrive,” Cyd ended.

A cold sweat dripped down Stihl’s back. He debated whether to take her to a medical facility. He didn’t believe they’d be able to diagnose her problem. When his dog, Dusty, got sick, they figured out what happened after he died. Better prepared this time, Stihl felt confident he could arrange the right kind of help.

A warning? Or did someone miss the mark, and he should be the one out cold?

He scanned Marohka, and a strange emotion bloomed inside him and poured through his cells. He wanted to identify the gut-wrenching pain.

Anger.

Yes, but it didn’t explain the ache around his heart. Outside of beating someone senseless in some barroom brawl or fighting with his father, Stihl rarely experienced this type of deep twisting reaction. And he disliked the feeling.

Why would someone wanted to hurt her?

He knotted his hands.

Protective.

Maybe, a part of what he was feeling was that he should’ve shielded her from any type of attack. The fear, which had consumed him when she’d fainted in his arms, still rumbled through his nerves like sharp knives. He’d admit blending with Marohka offered a certain level of excitement. And she might prove to be useful for his new adventure, but any deeper feelings like fear or grief were unrealistic.

A means to an end, a useful partner, a possession, nothing more could exist. Nothing more was feasible. He lacked the time for the love and commitment routine.

The twitch of her hand against his forced him to question his callous thoughts. A beautiful person with feeling and desires he’d only just begun to understand, she’d won his respect. Devoted, she’d fought to protect her family and also to maintain her career.

As his responsibility, he sought to secure her safety and convince her, their marriage could work. But . . .

Hotwired for each other...

When Ross Dixon is kidnapped from his office, along with the sexy lawyer who'd been busting his balls over a deal that should have been a walk in the park, he wakes to find a devotion chip surgically implanted in his brain.
