One of The Rituals of Mating Rituals by @AuthorTinaGayle #MFRWauthor

How to decide on who should married is only one of the rituals in society. In this story, a battle between the man and woman sets the stage of how they can learn to deal with each other.

 Excerpt -

Palms sweaty—heart steady—battle ready—Marohka reviewed her strategy for the fight. A crowd sat watching her from the observation deck. One of the elders read the rules over the loud speaker. “The person who pins his or her opponent for ten itons . . .”

Her gaze darted to the man standing in the middle of the mating arena. Orange padded walls framed Stihl’s body. Sizewise, he stood over four leg-lengths’ tall, giving him a half of leg advantage. Weightwise, he out matched her by at least a hundred pounds. Yet, neither his size nor his weight worried her. She’d beaten bigger men before at the gym where she worked out.

Bigger, but soft, she amended.

Under his skintight workout suit, she recognized a strong athletic man who worked out regularly. Her stomach churned at his muscle mass. The odds of her winning against a seasoned opponent ground to zero.

A blinding force of reality struck her—she could lose.

Unwilling to accept the possibility, she struggled with a way to win. She had two options, trick him with a fast maneuver or draw blood. Per the rules, any blood spilled disqualified him. Then, if she were lucky, the match over, and she’d be free forever.

She smiled at the reassuring thought. A strangely sweet odor hit her senses. With a quick glance at her target, she caught sight of his mischievous grin. A dimple flashed from the corner of his mouth.

Recognition dawned. Her opponent, none other than the guy by the staircase last night, winked at her. A fleeting notion sped through her head. Does she really want to win?

“Marohka Taunton meet your future mate, Stihl Fermesium,” the formal voice rang from the speakers.

With a nod of greeting, Marohka placed herself under tight control. Every muscle on alert, she waited for the contest to begin. She clenched her teeth to hide the spark of fear vibrating through her nervous system.

“Now after being introduced and read the rules, let’s see a fair fight.”

“Looks like you were wrong. It’s not over.” Stihl grinned.

She shifted into her fighting stance. Knees bent, one foot a step behind the other. She pictured ways to defeat him. “It soon will be.”

Simple Marinade for #Seafood or #Pork #recipe

Are you looking for a simple marinade?

Here is one I like to use on both seafood and pork.

1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup apricot jam
pinch of cayenne pepper.

The great thing about this recipe is that you can adjust it easily if you have more or less meat.

The pork takes about an hour to marinade while the seafood can be done in as little as half an hour
I do not throw away the marinade, but use it in the cook process.

First, fry up the meat then add the marinade with a little cornstarch or flour. This makes a nice sauce to go with the dish.

Other items you can add when frying up the meat is vegetables like onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, etc., or fruits such as pineapple.  The cooked meat and sauce can also put over rice or place it on top of a salad for a special treat.

Hope you enjoy,

Tina

Excerpt:
“Wait—”
“Marianne, what are you doing here?” Sylvia Wilshire stood in the middle of the hallway. Tall and slender, she offered a radiant smile and brushed a wayward hand through her dark auburn hair. As beautiful as ever, Marianne couldn’t help but marvel at how her friend had changed in the last two years. She’d lost over a hundred pounds and had married Vince Wilshire. He also happened to be like both of their deceased husbands, an executive for Knox.
Sylvia strolled forward with the grace of a model, her green-eyed gaze full of curiosity. “I just drop by to talk to Vince for a minute.”
The man in question walked through the doorway of another office. He winked at Marianne and slid an arm around Sylvia’s shoulder. “It looks like these two beauties are keeping us from our conference call.”
“Damn,” Knox groaned and checked his watch. “We better get in there before Foster has a cow because we’re late.”
Marianne stepped aside to give him room to walk around her.
He paused next to her and glared. “I’ll call you later, and we’ll work out a time for us to get together.”
Tempted to disagree with his plan, she proposed instead, “As long as it doesn’t interfere with my other social plans.”
He groaned and dropped a kiss on her cheek. “Someday I’m going to be the first and last thing you see every day. Then your activity calendar won’t matter.”
She lifted her hand ready to point out he shouldn’t say things like that to her in front of their friends. “Knox—”
Vince tugged on Knox’s arm and interrupted, “Come on, buddy before you get yourself in more trouble than you can get out of.”

Small #Winery in #Alabama - Grapes to Tempt Your Palate - #julesjbertavineyards

As most of you know, there are wineries in every state in the U.S. My husband and I enjoy discovering new ones. Recently, we were running around Alabama. We had just play a round of golf at the Robert Trent Jones Course in Huntsville and decided to do a drive by of the Jules J. Berta winery in Albertsville.

One of the things that I look for in a local winery is that they grow their own grapes and use other regional fruits, which in my book makes them representatives of the area in which they live. Jules J. Berta winery was this and much more. Why?

They are on the cutting edge of introducing several new types of grapes to the Alabama region. Their SYLVANER is an ancient varietal often associated with being wild.  It is a flavorful wine that is sweet but finishes with a dry edge.

They also have several other varieties that were brought over from Hungary. The oldest varietal is Blaufrankisch, but they also are growing Sauvignon blanc, Petit Syrah, and a varietal known as Red Chardonnay. This is exciting news for growers outside the state of California.

The selection offered both sweet wines for me and dry wines for my husband. Of all the wines we tasted, there were few that didn't please us. The hard part was narrowing it down to only a few bottles.

So if you are in Alabama and looking for a new wine to try, you might want to drop by

 Jules J. Berta winery.

Or visit them online    www.julesjbertavineyards.com

Hope you enjoyed the visit as much as we did,

Tina

Charles Marion Russell - #Western #Artist #Cowboy

As many of you know, I was born in Texas. I walked fields, rode a horse or two, and fell in love with more than one cowboy. After all, who can resist a cowboy?
Through the years, I had the pleasure of visiting the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth where I first spotted a Russell sculpture. The detail and design of the cowboys working with horses and other animals fascinated me.
So, when we decided to drive through Great Falls, Montana, I was very excited by the prospect of visiting Charles M. Russell museum. Not only does his home and studio sit on a corner of a quiet neighborhood, but a huge building houses his artwork. It also supports other artists. There are more current pieces throughout the building along with a gun collection that he used to get every detail of the weapons correct.
He grew up in Missouri but convinced his parents to let him move to Montana to work on a ranch. He fell in love with the land and appreciated the cowboys that worked it. Fond of sketching pictures on postcards and letters, his boss shared one of these with the owner of the ranch. Pleased by the picture, the owner shared it with his friends. This brought him work as an artist and gave him the opportunity to paint.
Charles gained international acclaim, mainly due to his wife who was his manager and set up many showings across the country. Even after his death in 1926, his art has lived on and is still sought after by collectors around the world.
I was surprised by the detail of his sketches and paintings. He used all sorts of mediums; oil painting, pencils, and bronze sculptures. As a self-educated artist, he had no formal training until early 1900 when he traveled to New York and was introduced to other artists and illustrators.  His journey into the art world was not always easy but he followed his heart, leaving behind a collection of pieces that celebrate women, cowboys, and a life on the western frontier.
If you are in the area, I highly recommend you stop by for a visit.

Here is a sample of his work.
