DeSoto Wildlife Refuge

Mike and I took a short trip out to DeSoto Wildlife Refuge in Nebraska.

A fascinating place, the birthplace of a lake and the dead fork of the Missouri River, DeSoto is where the "Bertrand" sank, a merchant steamboat that held merchandise bound for the Montana Territory.

The Visitor Center holds a large assortment of the items retrieved from the boat.

Would love to go back when the birds are flying through.

At this time of year, the refuge is quiet and offers a peaceful place to rest and relax.

If you get a chance, you might want to stop by.

Love seeing the stuff from the Bertrand! Fort Atkinson does reinactment weekends - you might want to watch for those.
